Comparing citations from immunology publications coming out of Indiana University from the years 1990-94 with those from 1995-99, citations increased from 524 to 1,540, with the total number of publications increasing from 114 to 220. Hal Broxmeyer, Ph.D., chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Indiana University provides some insight into this dramatic rise in the university’s contribution to the field of immunology and related areas of clinical and basic research.

When the Georgia Institute of Technology’s publications and citations in biology & biochemistry from the 1990-94 period were compared with those from the 1995-99 period, publications were shown to increase from 95 to 125 and citations from 490 to 1,944. These figures represent a substantial increase in impact. Dr. Roger Wartell, the chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Biology, discusses the circumstances and achievements that led to this institution’s higher citation rate in the biological sciences.

The citations for the University of California at Irvine have increased from 491 in the early 1990s to 2,088 in the latter half of the decade, and the number of papers published in this same period has increased from 87 to 285, respectively.
