Did you expect Nutrition
Research Reviews to
become highly cited, or is this surprising to you?
|

“The science of nutrition covers a broad field from farm to plate, and from plate to human health and well-being.”
|
|
Nutrition Research Reviews has
a respectable impact factor—number 6 or 7 among nutrition journals,
so while it is pleasing that it also has a significant impact among
agriculture journals this is not surprising.
How would you account for the increased citation rate of
Nutrition Research Reviews?
Nutrition Research Reviews publishes peer-refereed critical
reviews of recent research in nutritional sciences; the increased
citation rate reflects the increasing interest in nutritional
sciences and the emergence of nutri-genomics and a greater
understanding of the importance of nutrient-gene interactions.
What historical factors have contributed to the success of
Nutrition Research Reviews?
In keeping with the ethos of the Nutrition Society, and
reflecting the interests of its members, Nutrition Research
Reviews has always tried to maintain a balance between human
clinical and social nutrition on one hand and animal nutrition on
the other. The science of nutrition covers a broad field from farm
to plate, and from plate to human health and well-being.
Have there been specific developments in the fields served by
Nutrition Research Reviews
that may have contributed?
Recent advances in molecular genetics, and the emergence of
nutri-genomics, mean that interest in nutritional sciences extends
far beyond the traditional areas. Also, there is increasing interest
in social and ethical aspects of nutrition, which we have included
in our comprehensive coverage of the subject.
What, in your view, is this journal's main significance or
contribution in the field of Agricultural Sciences?
Providing critical reviews of recent research, in both farm
animal nutrition and also aspects of agriculture and plant science
that impact on the health of farm animals and human beings and the
nutritional value of crops. We have been consistent in including
reviews of relevance to animal nutrition in every issue, and this
has helped cross-fertilisation between human and animal
nutritionists.
How do you see your field(s) evolving in the next few years?
Nutritional sciences will evolve especially in
the molecular areas, as techniques come on-stream and improve. In
relation to animal nutrition specifically, interests will continue
to expand in novel areas, which will be linked to traditional
topics; nutrition will become even more holistic than at present.
What role do you see for your journal?
To continue to provide critical reviews of the
major advances in nutritional sciences, and to provide an interface
between the different disciplines involved.
