As of March 1, 2002, ISI Essential Science Indicators Web product data were updated to cover an 11-year period, from January 1991 to December 31, 2001. With this update, the data pool expanded to include an additional 1,184 scientists; 189 institutions; 7 countries; and 63 journals that are either entirely new to ISI Essential Science Indicators Web product, or new to one of the database’s 22 fields. In-cites identifies here those that broke into the charts with the highest number of citations.

Of the 1,184 scientists classified as new to ISI Essential Science Indicators Web product in some way, 24 have amassed the highest total citations in each of the 22 fields covered in the database. Two researchers each in the fields of Engineering and Computer Science achieved the same total citation tallies. These scientists are listed in the table below:
