As of July 1, 2006, Essential Science Indicators data were updated to cover a 10-year plus 4-month period, from January 1996 to April 30, 2006. With this update, the data pool expanded to include an additional 1,888 scientists, 158 institutions, 16 countries, and 46 journals that are either entirely new to Essential Science Indicators, or new to one of the database’s 22 fields.
