As of September 1, 2006, Essential Science Indicators data were updated to cover a 10-year plus 6-month period, from January 1996 to June 30, 2006. With this update, the data pool expanded to include an additional 1,594 scientists, 198 institutions, 18 countries, and 42 journals that are either entirely new to Essential Science Indicators, or new to one of the database’s 22 fields.
