Science in Denmark, 2001-05

Denmark's world share of science and social-science papers over a recent five-year period, expressed as a percentage of papers in each of 21 fields in the Thomson Scientific database. Also, Denmark's relative citation impact compared to the world average in each field, in percentage terms.

Between 2001 and 2005, Thomson Scientific indexed 40,638 papers that listed at least one author address in Denmark. Of those papers, Denmark's highest percentage appeared in journals classified under the heading of biology & biochemistry. In that field, as can be seen in the right-hand column, the citations-per-paper average for papers from Denmark exceeded the world average by 13% (8.51 cites per paper for Denmark, versus a world baseline of 7.56 citations). The impact of papers from Denmark surpassed the world average in all but three of the fields shown above, with particularly strong performance in physics (61% above the world mark), agricultural sciences (58% above), chemistry (+50%), and engineering (+49%).
